Everybody started the year off by creating their list of “In’s & Out’s,” and I’m here to say that overall, indulgence is in.
No more boring silhouettes. No more predictable outfit pairings. No more staying safe.
For example, no more pants! Maybe ever! (jk)
Opulence does not equal extravagance. If we have learned anything from Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, you can exude opulence while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic.
So, let’s start by defining a few of these key words:
So, opulence corresponds with luxuriousness…
I’m holding on to that phrase, “great comfort.” Luxuriousness is about a feeling.
This is what is in: Indulging in the pleasure of luxuriousness.
Or to indulge in the pleasure of great comfort. After these tumultuous past few years, we have collectively seen how fragile life is. As we have returned to a more “normal” way of living, most of us are still questioning the motives behind what is driving the choices we make and what we really want out of this life.
I have been learning to give myself more grace and to take time to ensure I am truly enjoying my life on a day-to-day basis. No more working for the weekend. No more working for the next vacation. No more relationships that feel obligatory rather than a true connection. I am learning to let go and lean in to what decisions feel healthy and sustainable.
What does “great comfort” mean to you?
What makes you feel at home in your own body?
How do you create this feeling?
This is what is in: Living extravagantly through the notion of great comfort.
For me, some days this means enjoying a pot of hot tea while scrolling TikTok. Other days, it means investing in a pair of Peter Do trousers that I know I will live in for years. Sometimes luxury feels like taking a few deep breaths.
For you, it may mean wearing red body paint and 30,000 Swarovski crystals.
Buy yourself blueberry muffins or a flaky croissant. Wear The Row head to toe. Paint yourself red and wear 30,000 Swarovski crystals. Take a few deep breaths. Tell your dog how good it feels to be alive. And that, I believe, is the ultimate act of opulence.
